The South African unemployment rate has increased to 29.1% in the third quarter of the year 2019, this is an increase of 0.1% from the previous quarter statistics. Where are we heading as country? Does it not bother you? If the unemployment rate keeps going up like this what will be happening in the next 5 years to come?  The sad reality to every young person in South Africa is that the stats might continue going high and high. With the 29.1% of unemployment we still have a lot of Students in universities and colleges all over the country who are looking forward to go in the corporate world. Will they even find jobs? Where will all these people go after graduating? We hear now and then of big companies and mines that are retrenching people, those people are qualified for that job and we still have more who want the same job. Who are we supposed to blame? Is it our government? As always in the State of the nation address we are told of the things that the governm...

Matriculants are writing their final examinations and we all know that this is a very stressful time of the year to them. It is not only Matriculants who are faced with this situation but also many other students all over the country who are in universities and colleges. The pressure to pass can be overwhelming as extra attention it is really placed on them, be it from government, family, community  and even peers.  This is that time of the year where we are all tested on what we have been doing throughout the year. This season can bring on levels of stress and burnout that can hinder your studies. We are all stressed by these exams in different ways. It is important to manage this stress and find little ways to help you eliminate the risk of burnout. 2019 hasn't been an easy year for all of us, from learners in lower grades like grade 1 where one of them were raped, young children not making it back from schools, learners in upper grades fighting and stabbing each othe...

The 2019 Matriculants of South  Africa are very optimis tic  about their final exams, which are to start on Wednesday 23 October 2019. English first Additional language is the first main Exam to be written by the class of 2019. They are approximately about 790 405 pupils who will be writing the 2019 national senior certificate(NSC). The government has always been behind the pupils from day one offering the support they needed. The Matric candidates were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that were available to them from the begin of the 2019 academic year so that they can develop themselves to be better citizens. The government had removed many barriers to education by introducing "no fee" schools and offering bursaries and study loans to students who want to study at institutions of higher learning. It was never an easy year, we had so many challenges this year at schools throughout the provinces of South Africa  more especially Gauten...

Image
This is a topic that had the country stirred up last night and is one of the trending topics on Twitter and other social media platforms. The Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has revealed government plan to get learners to leave school at the age of 15 which is when they complete grade 9. Motshekga  said so in her speech at the 9th SADTU National Congress held at Nasrec, and stirred up a lot of controversy in the process: She revealed the government’s plans to allow students to leave school at the end of Grade 9, with an alternative set of qualifications. She explained that a new cycle of evaluation was being planned at strategic levels of education, culminating with the achievement of a General Education Certificate (GEC) before going onto Matric.  Students as young as 15 could legally leave school with government-approved qualifications  – two years earlier than scheduled. But why is the government  considering such a move? Critics have a...

What has become of South Africa.

Image
It was very clear in the dark days of apartheid that we wanted a different and better society. One in which all people would be treated with dignity and respect; inequality would be eradicated or at least, seriously diminished; everyone would feel that they have equal opportunities to achieve their potential; everyone would feel safe, and enjoy the beauty of our country. What we have seen since we have become a democracy has been almost the opposite. I was one of those optimistic people who have always held out high hopes for our country, and in many ways I still do. But it is becoming more and more difficult to remain positive when you are surrounded by so much negativity. Everyday there's a case of a father who killed his child(ren). A young girl who is no where to be found. Is this the South Africa we were fighting for? Where did we go wrong as a country? Is the justice system of South Africa becoming worse and worse? What needs to be done? When will all this ...
